I think I have a new Grand Idea. Hopefully in a couple weeks I’ll have a new site to show for it. If nothing else, I’ll be learning more about ruby on rails as well as python/django.

The end of an era

This weekend will see the dark corner shutting its doors. I’ve been going to that club for probably 10 years now. I hope that someone pick up the night, but who knows. A third incarnation of the event may not be in the cards.

I’m still here, I’ve just been very low key lately.

Kat is back in school now. I’m still working quite a bit. At this point I’m the technical lead on 3 projects and managing a small group of developers. Its been a big shift in my day to day stuff. I’m still undecided as to how I feel about the whole change. Last night was Kat’s birthday. We went out for fondue with some friends. It was a great time. Life has been getting into a very calm state.

Ever since I met Kat things have started getting better. I think I’m finally home.

More death

It seems like the only thing to motivate me to post these days is death.

Yesterday an author of a series I’ve been reading since 1990 passed away. Robert Jordan was working on the 12th and final book in his Wheel of Time series. The series is a tale reminiscent of Lord of the Rings. The books over the years have varied in quality. They’ve been wonderful, rich stories and they’ve dragged on dwelling on minutia in a manner that would make Anne Rice proud.

Regardless of the vagaries, over the years I’ve looked forward to reading the next book in the series. Even during the dull bits (books 7-9) I still found aspects of the tale that I enjoyed. His last book in the series was due out next year. I’m hoping that there is enough in his notes/work that someone can finish the tale in a way that does justice to the series.

Hilly Kristal, founder of the New York punk club CBGB which is credited with discovering Patti Smith and The Ramones, has died at the age of 75. The full write up I saw is over here

I still have nothing much to say

I’ve been dreaming about Beauty a lot. I guess its just a delayed reaction. Its been a mix of good and bad. I dream she’s angry at me for killing her, I dream she’s happy to see me again. Mostly its just internal dialog.

I’m kind of stressed about money lately. I do OK, but I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever get out of debt. I was so, so close this spring but I’m back in debt again. Now is a rotten time to try and get an unsecured loan. Banks are just in a panic over the looming real estate crunch. Couple this with my own colorful credit history and it gets complicated. I guess I’m just going to have to sit down and do a real budget. I’m reasonably sure that 6 months of me being a tight fisted miser would see the majority of my debt resolved.

My reasons for this are mainly that I’m not even sure what the point of having it anymore really is.
