Last night we went out for a little company happy hour after hitting one of our major milestones. The happy hour itself was a blast. I work with some cool people so we had a good time and laughed a lot.
While I was there, I noticed this blonde at the corner of the bar. She looked really familiar but I couldn’t think of who she was for a while. Then it hit me. I remembered this girl from Asylum 12 years ago. In fact, I remembered that she and Kat used to hang out quite frequently. So, I walked by a couple times just to see if it was really her. I was convinced enough that I just walked up and asked. I was like
“Excuse me, this isn’t a line or anything, but is your name…..”
She laughed and said “You’re Kat’s husband right?” and the ice was broken. Evidently she’d just recently found Kat’s myspace page and kinda recognized me too.
So, I was pretty sure Kat would like to come down since the bar I was at was super close to home. She thought Kat was mad at her from years ago. Kat thought she was mad at her for something else. Finally I got them both in the same room and they realized that the whole thing was a misunderstanding and nobody was mad at anybody. So, Kat had a 10 year reunion with a friend last night. I just thought about how small the world is and how you never really forget the people you party with even if you’re not that close to them.

Yesterday I finally stopped being a cheap bastard and bought a nice new color laser printer for the office. This thing rocks! Finally quality color printing and its _fast_.
I was just talking to a friend at work who said they have a usb->nic dongle so I can make it a network printer. This will save us the trouble of an office holocaust to make room for it.
So, anyone who’s completely fed up with the lack of quality on their inkjet…. a laser printer is quite worth it.

The show last night rocked.
The opening act, 69 Eyes reminded me of a cross between Sisters of Mercy and Kiss. Or, as Fred pointed out, maybe Type O Negative and LA Guns. Either way, they were silly, flamboyant and very entertaining to watch. I doubt I’ll be listening to them on my own, but I was entertained. In a way, I was happy to see a band that didn’t take itself overly serious. Watching black metal bands that think they’re ‘for real’ is just tiresome.
Cradle put on a good show. The set rocked, the sound was great but the stage show was cut way back. Evidently touring north america isn’t that profitable and they had to cut costs. Still, it was good to see them live and I had a good time.
After the show it was time to meet at the club. I ran into a few friends and had a good time being snarky with people. As always there were a few well dressed people and a few examples of what not to do.

Tonight, Cradle of Filth at the troc. I’m flying solo tonight so it’ll be interesting to see who I wind up running into.
After that, and I are hitting Nocturne at Shampoo.

I’ve been spending a little time learning Maven and Continuum. The learning curve is a little annoying, but the tools do make for a nice build system/continuous build monitor system.
The one thing I find entertaining is the sheer amount of configuration that java ee requires. Instead of writing the code, you spend more time tweaking config files and trouble shooting abstraction layers than seems reasonable.

Then Cradle will be in town.
Anyone going to the show or hitting the club afterwards? Kat will come to the club later since she absolutely hates the band. It will be one of my rare appearances out during the week.

Weird start to the week. This morning there was a light dusting of snow on the ground. As I was dusting off the car, I noticed an elderly couple walking each other across the walk way. They were probably in their late 60’s early 70’s. The woman called out and asked if I had a cell phone.
Evidently the bus that was supposed to come pick up the man for his cancer treatment was late. I walked them to the end of the path and let them call the place to ask if it was on its way (it was). The prospect of the trek back to use the phone was obviously significant to them.
He has a bad hip and she has bad knees. But they’re still together, leaning on each other and I’m not sure, but I got a vibe that I liked from the 2 of them. So, my day started 30 minutes late, but I think it was a good thing. No real point to this story other than I thought it was cool to see them care for each other and despite the situation their happiness to be together a while longer. I think I have this with Kat. I guess time will tell.

I’m now out of debt. I think my credit card ballance is now $3.14 and thats just due to a rounding error on my part from when I paid my last bill.
I lived debt free for a number of years. In the last 2-3 years I accumulated quite a bit of debt. I’ve now dug myself out. My next battle is the remaining ballance on Kat’s card, but that is fairly small and shouldn’t take long. Perhaps even as soon as next month. Once thats done we’ll have a much larger amount of breathing room in the budget.
Go me. \m/

Not many of my friends share my appreciation for the noise that cradle makes. I’m going to the show at the troc in a couple weeks. Its a wed nite, so maybe I’ll hit shampoo on the way home afterwards.
Anybody else going?
